Blood cancer breakthrough gives patient new lease on life
Marie Hindee, a patient from Shelby Township, experienced a breakthrough in her 15-year battle with blood cancer after undergoing CAR T-cell therapy at Corewell Health Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. This innovative treatment, which was approved by the FDA in 2024, involves modifying a patient's T-cells to target and destroy cancer cells, offering a high remission rate and potentially long-lasting results. Hindee's journey included multiple chemotherapy sessions and new drug trials before this therapy led to her remission, allowing her to enjoy life with her family and inspire others with hope. Dr. Ishmael Jaiyesimi, her oncologist, shares in her joy and highlights the therapy's promise for treating resistant blood cancers and its expanding research into solid tumors.
