Michigan school district launches no-screens initiative to improve reading

Mesick Consolidated Schools have implemented a "no screens" initiative in elementary classrooms to improve literacy after reviewing low literacy scores. Superintendent Jack Ledford and third-grade teacher Hanna Brechenser emphasized the importance of traditional learning tools and teacher-led reading, replacing digital programs with hands-on activities and peer work. Despite mixed initial reactions from students, early signs show increased engagement with reading, and the district plans to monitor results over time.
