Rubber-modified asphalt gives tires second life on Michigan roads

Rubber-modified asphalt, made by blending ground tires with asphalt, is being tested on Michigan roads to enhance durability and reduce potholes. The Washtenaw County Road Commission is trialing this innovative mix on Ellsworth Road, observing its performance against standard asphalt. Despite higher costs, officials believe it could offer longer-lasting roads with less maintenance. Similar efforts are underway in Bay County, where advancements in technology have improved the application of rubber in road construction.
