Pothole season returns: How Wayne County decides what gets fixed first

Wayne County is actively addressing pothole issues caused by freeze-thaw cycles, using cold patches in winter and shifting to more durable hot asphalt mix once temperatures rise. The county prioritizes repairs based on safety, traffic volume, and complaint severity, responding to emergencies immediately and non-emergencies within 48 hours. Gravel roads present additional challenges, with efforts to improve conditions limited until the subgrade fully thaws. Residents are encouraged to report potholes through a 24/7 call center to facilitate timely repairs.
