Pickup truck crashes into Livingston County Sheriff’s car while deputy responds to another crash

A pickup truck sideswiped a Livingston County Sheriff’s patrol car while deputies responded to a different crash Tuesday morning. Deputies responded to help state police at the scene of a rollover crash on I-96 near Pickney Road in Marion Township on March 17, just after 6 a.m. The sheriff’s office said the first arriving deputy positioned his patrol car in the left lane of the freeway to create a barrier to protect the first responders working at the scene. Moments later, a pickup truck, driven by a 69-year-old Fowlerville resident, sideswiped the parked patrol car. No one was injured in the secondary crash. The driver of the pickup truck was cited for careless driving. The driver of the car involved in the initial crash was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. “When approaching any vehicle displaying flashing emergency lights on the roadway, please reduce your speed and remain alert to emergency personnel and other vehicles around you,” said the sheriff’s office in a statement.
