MDOT reports one of the most expensive winters in 20 years

It was a rough winter, and all that snow really did a number on the roads.  If you factor in the cost to plow and salt, then add in what it may cost to repair all the potholes after the freeze-thaw cycle, the Michigan Department of Transportation says it was one of the most expensive winters in the last 20 years.  MDOT also says that since the start of the year, crews have gone through more than 100,000 tons of salt through February.  Now, since the winter was so bad this year, MDOT could have to scale back on summer maintenance.  Ishrat Jahan, MDOT’s associate region engineer for operations in Metro Detroit, joined Local 4 Live to give us some perspective on the cost.
