Double donor: Pediatric nurse donates an organ to two different strangers
When you look up “giver” in the dictionary, there should be a picture of Phil Consiglio. Each year, just .002 percent of the U.S. population will become a living organ donor. Consiglio is now part of an even more exclusive club of people who have donated twice -- both times to a stranger. Consiglio is a Woodhaven native and a pediatric surgical nurse at the University of Michigan’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. He said one of his very first patients inspired this life-changing journey.
