Detroit neighbors demand action on blight, city responds with Brightmoor community walk
Detroit’s Brightmoor neighborhood residents, notably Roosevelt Johnson and Tony Bradley, voiced concerns about blight, neglected properties, and safety hazards on Burgess Street. In response, city officials from multiple departments joined the neighbors for a block-by-block walk to identify problems such as overgrown lots, sidewalk damage, dumping, and vacant homes. City staff addressed an unsecured vacant house during the visit and emphasized their commitment to act on residents’ reports and develop action plans. Officials assured that similar neighborhood walks are available to any resident who requests them.
