Metro Detroit weather forecast: Real heat arrives Wednesday

Air quality alert issued for Wednesday

DETROIT – A heat wave will start Wednesday in Southeast Michigan, along with an air quality alert.

Even with a lot of clouds around Tuesday, temperatures were hotter. But the real heat arrives Wednesday.  Tuesday night clouds will fade, leaving Metro Detroit mostly clear overnight.  It will have more of a muggy feel, too. Temperatures will only drop to around 70 degrees in our Metro Zone, and mid-to-upper 60s elsewhere.

Temperatures rise into the 90s Wednesday. The thermometer will say 92 in the afternoon, but it will feel more like 95. Skies will start mostly sunny, with partly cloudy conditions expected by afternoon.

An air quality alert has been posted for Wednesday for ground-level ozone. If you have asthma or other respiratory issues, limit your outdoor exertion.

Our dry stretch will come to an end (for some) Thursday. Expect scattered thunderstorms in the second half of the day, but it won’t impact the heat or humidity. Air temperatures will be back to around 92 degrees with heat index readings around 98.

Friday won’t be much different, except for a better chance of thunderstorms.

The weekend should be mostly dry except for some leftover morning showers or rumbles of thunder Saturday.  The rain won’t be far to the south and east, so this forecast could easily change in the next couple of days.
