Metro Detroit weather: Bitter cold air moving in

DETROIT – Bitter cold air is moving in this morning bringing scattered snow showers and single digit wind chills as you head out around Metro Detroit.

This is going to slow down the morning drive and those wind chills will be dangerous all day. Expect some sunshine to battle back this afternoon after the morning snow chances lay down a dusting or slightly more in spots. Highs in low to mid 20s on your Thursday afternoon with winds WNW 10-20 mph keeping those wind chills low most of the day.

Friday is a bit warmer but still breezy and feeling cool, waking up with lows tomorrow in the teens. A light snow maker is moving through Michigan midday Friday and will have a larger impact in Central Michigan and may lay down a quick in our North Zone or north of M 59. Most of Metro Detroit can expect another dusting through the afternoon hours as highs head toward 30 degrees. The winds S 7-17 mph keep wind chills in the 20s and warmer winds may bring highs late in the day into the low to mid 30s.

Get ready for a warming weekend as we feel temps soaring into the mid 40s Saturday under mostly cloudy skies. A rain and snow storm moves in early Sunday and the model data is split on the exact kind of precipitation. You should expect a rainy Sunday with a chance of rain and snow to mix and then becoming all snow late  Sunday. You can always take the weather with you with the Local4Casters app.
