DETROIT – The most likely window for severe storms Saturday in Metro Detroit is starting to come into focus, but there’s another scenario that could also play out.
Saturday storm chances
High-resolution models are showing a more refined picture of what’s likely to play out Saturday, but there are still some “black sheep” model runs.
The consensus is that a round of showers and storms will hit in the afternoon and early evening -- that window is from about 4-8 p.m. Saturday.
Southeast Michigan is under a “slight” risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe weather. The primary concern is strong, damaging winds, but hail, flooding, and tornadoes can’t be completely ruled out.
Another possible scenario
Some model data brings a few storms to Metro Detroit earlier than that 4-8 p.m. window.
If that happens, anything that comes later in the evening would likely be weaker.
This scenario appears to be less likely, but it’s a possibility.
Heat, humidity return next week
Heat and humidity will return to Metro Detroit next week -- especially later in the workweek.
We’re expecting highs in the 90s on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. When you factor in the higher humidity, it’ll feel very heavy the second half of the week.
Next week’s rain, storm chances
Rain chances and a few storms are possible from Wednesday through Friday next week.
They look likely to be of the “afternoon popup” variety, but the forecast will be easier to fine-tune as we get closer.
