DETROIT – Following a brief period of rain this morning as a cold front pushed through, we should be dry through midday with more numerous showers this afternoon and evening.
Isolated showers begin to develop after 3pm with stronger scattered showers this evening capable of producing gusty winds to upward of 30 mph. Highs today will be around 60 then falling into the 50s for the rest of the week.
The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded our southern communities to a marginal risk for severe weather today, with the primary hazard being damaging wind. Monroe, Lenawee, Southern Washtenaw and Southern Wayne counties are under the risk (mainly south of I-94). As widely scattered convection develops during the afternoon, strong to locally severe gusts (50-65 mph) are possible for a few hours before this activity weakens by the early evening as it spreads across Lake Erie.
Night Sky
If clouds don’t hinder your view, the Orionids meteor shower will peak tonight after midnight until dawn. You will see up to 20 meteors per hour. Look towards the eastern sky near the Orion constellation.
Weekend & Rivalry Forecast
We trend drier and more seasonal for the weekend. Whether you are a spartan or a wolverine, we can all cheer for winning weather at the big rivalry game. Plan for 50s while tailgating and 40s throughout the game. Mostly sunny and upper 50s are on tap Sunday.
Early Look at Halloween
A lot can change in 10 days, but long-range data is hinting at dry weather with highs in the mid-50s for Halloween.
