DETROIT – Metro Detroit is likely to see its first measurable snowfall this weekend, and some of the details are coming into clearer focus.
The 4Warn Weather team has been forecasting the chance for snow all week, and now the models are coming into agreement. There’s still some uncertainty, but at this point, snow seems likely.
Widespread rain arrives Friday and more moves in late Saturday night. As temperatures drop, that rain could transition into snow on Sunday morning.
At the very least, the southern half of Southeast Michigan is likely to get measurable snow on Sunday. It’s too early to talk exact snowfall totals, but at minimum, we’re expecting a tenth of an inch. There’s a chance that some people in the area will need to shovel, but since the ground isn’t frozen, most of the snow that we do get won’t stick.
It appears there are more snow chances as lake-effect bands develop on Monday, especially as lows dip into the low to mid-20s by Monday morning, with wind chills potentially in the single digits to our west.
