Live radar: Rain, snow, strong winds, colder temperatures this week

Half-inch to 2 inches of total snow accumulation possible through weekend

DETROIT – Widespread rain is moving through Southeast Michigan, and it will be accompanied this week by snow, strong winds, and colder temperatures.

You can watch the live radar above.

Rain showers

Rain showers became more widespread across the area on Tuesday morning and continue into the afternoon.

Those showers will likely fizzle out in the evening.

Highs will be around 50 degrees.

Snow arrives

A strong cold front is scheduled to move in Wednesday morning, bringing sharply different conditions.

Those conditions will include whipping winds, colder airs, and a change in precipitation from rain to snow.

Lake-effect snow showers ramp up Wednesday night through Thanksgiving Day and linger into Thursday night.

From Wednesday evening through the weekend, we could get anywhere from a half-inch to 2 inches of snow. Accumulations are highly dependent on where the lake-effect bands setup.

Wind gusts

Westerly wind gusts of 35-40 mph are expected Wednesday, with a chance of gusts around 45 mph by the afternoon.

Wind gusts will still be around 30-35 mph on Thursday, which could impact the large balloons as the parade moves down Woodward Avenue.

Colder temperatures

Plan for a surge of colder temperatures by Thanksgiving morning.

Wind chills will be in the teens to low 20s along the route of the America’s Thanksgiving Parade, presented by Gardner White.

Michigan football vs. Ohio State

There could be some snow flurries during the Michigan football game Saturday in Ann Arbor against Ohio State.

High temperatures remain in the 30s through the weekend.

A wintry mix looks more likely Sunday into Monday, which could make the rest of holiday travel tricky across the state.
