DETROIT – Will Metro Detroit schools be closed on Friday, Jan. 23, due to the weather? There’s a very good chance.
It’s been a bitterly cold week in Southeast Michigan, and that has already sparked hundreds of school closings over the past few days.
But Friday is likely to be even colder, and a cold weather advisory is set to go into effect at 1 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2026.
Local 4 has issued a 4Warn Weather alert for Friday and Saturday because of the impending dangerously cold temperatures.
With wind chills potentially reaching as low as 25 degrees below zero, there’s a good chance many schools around the area will be closed on Friday.
The cold weather advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday. Even without the wind chill, Saturday morning temperatures could be the coldest we’ve seen in seven years.
Temperatures are going to remain very cold into next week.
