Memorial Day forecast: Patchy morning fog, summer-like warmth settles into Metro Detroit

Mostly sunny Memorial Day to kick off the unofficial start to summer

Metro Detroit may encounter a few areas of patchy fog early on this Memorial Day as low clouds and abundant moisture linger across the region. Dense Fog Advisories have been issued just west of Southeast Michigan, and while widespread dense fog is not expected locally, folks should remain alert for reduced visibility in isolated spots early today.

The clouds and fog will gradually dissipate through the morning, paving the way for mostly sunny skies by this afternoon. Once the sunshine returns, temperatures will respond quickly, ushering in the warmest stretch of weather so far this weekend. In fact, conditions look beautiful for local parades and ceremonies. The UV index will be very high this afternoon, so make sure you apply sunscreen.

Summer-like conditions are expected from today through Wednesday, with afternoon highs climbing into the 80s across much of Southeast Michigan. Rain chances will remain relatively low for most of the week, making for several excellent days to spend time outdoors and at the pool.

The next opportunity for showers and thunderstorms appears to arrive late Wednesday evening as a weak disturbance moves through the Great Lakes. At this time, rainfall coverage looks limited, and many locations could remain dry. Following the midweek warmth, temperatures will trend closer to seasonal averages beginning Thursday. Highs are expected to settle back into the 70s through the weekend while dry weather continues to dominate the forecast.
