DETROIT - A very impactful winter storm is moving through Metro Detroit this morning with most of us in a Winter Weather Advisory for dangerous traveling conditions.
- Ice Storm Warning -- Lenawee and Monroe counties until noon Tuesday
- Winter Storm Warning -- North of I-69 until noon Wednesday
- Winter Weather Advisory - Metro Detroit until 3 p.m. Wednesday
We have snow and blowing snow moving through that will mix with a little sleet during the early morning hours and we may see a couple of inches of snow and sleet accumulation.
After 7 a.m., our chances for freezing rain or ice increase. Our South Zone is in an Ice Storm Warning for the potential of half an inch of ice leading to accidents and power outages. Areas north, closer to Detroit will see some ice accumulation too during the morning rush but there’s no guarantee that the precip will take a certain form at any certain time.
So prepare for snow-covered and slippery streets and some really dangerous ice forming mid morning.
Our North Zone has a Winter Storm Warning today and tomorrow for 4-8 inches of snow especially during the morning and early afternoon north of M-59 and especially north of I-69. That area could get some freezing rain this afternoon too.
Temps are in the 20s this morning and by noon we will go above freezing bringing melting rain showers through the afternoon and evening. We should get a break in the action here and there this morning and afternoon.
Heavier snow bands and squalls shift back into play tonight into early Wednesday. Be careful!
Snow showers will be around during the first half of Wednesday and some of these could be on the heavier bringing a quick coating to an inch or two. Temperatures will be cooler starting in the low to mid 20s and warming only to near 30 degrees with gusty winds WSW 10-25 mph gusting to 40 mph at times. That means wind chills will be in the single digits to low teens tomorrow.
Thursday, Friday forecast
Another wintry mix is taking shape for Thursday and early Friday. Highs will be near 40 degrees Thursday and we expect afternoon and/or evening rain and snow showers to move in later in the day Valentine’s Day.
It may be a little wet as you head out to dinner. Friday may start with some light snow, but most of Friday and Saturday are dry and cooler in the 20s to low 30s. We have another snow chance during the afternoon or evening Sunday.
