Metro Detroit weather: Snowstorm on the way out Thursday morning

Highs in the 20s

DETROIT – Fresh snowpack and cooling temperatures this morning will keep the roads icy and snow covered through the morning hours, so give yourselves extra time on the early drive.

Some lake effect snow showers in the Thumb could bring another inch or more in spots and reduce visibility and counties along Lake Huron are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 a.m.

The snow and the skies clear today with plenty of sunshine. Grab the shades because of the sun and it’s intense reflection off of the fresh snow.

Highs are being hit this morning in the 20s dropping into the teens for most of the day. The winds NW 5-12 mph will keep wind chills in the single digits which means we need to layer up if we plan on being outside for a while.

More snow Friday

Another snow maker comes in Friday and this one will get a little support from lake effect conditions to our west. There will be light to moderate snow possible as early as 7 a.m. but it gets a little heavier later into the evening.

The light snow during the day will be coming and going laying down a quick coating, but the evening snow showers into early Saturday could bring another inch or two. Temps are in the mid 20s for most of tomorrow with pesky breezes SW 10-20 mph gusting stronger at times.

Weekend forecast

We should see 30s by the end of this weekend but we may not make it there Saturday. Morning snow showers to start the weekend with dry conditions expected in the afternoon if you are heading downtown to the Lions Game. Temps in the upper 20s to low 30s. Sunday is a bit warmer with mostly cloudy skies and temps in the mid to late 30s. Track temperatures tumbling and our next snow chances with our Local4Casters app.
