Rainbow Rehabilitation Centers, which provides rehabilitation services to individuals with brain and spinal cord injuries, is hosting a Safety and Health Bike Fair Saturday. Rainbow will be providing 500 free bike helmets to participants.
One study suggests that helmet use during biking or skating can reduce the risk of head injury by 85 percent and severe brain injury by 88 percent.

The event is open to the public and will be held at the Helms Haven Shelter in Hines Park in Dearborn Heights, MI. The Bike Fair will run 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and coincides with "Saturday in the Park" in which six miles of Hines Drive is closed to automobile traffic for individuals to ride bikes, skate and walk/run.
Besides the helmet giveaway, the Bike Fair will feature bike safety inspections and helmet checks by D & D Bicycles, bike and helmet decorating, a slow-roll bike ride, face painting & tattoos, health and safety information and giveaways and child safety IDs by the Wayne County Sheriff Department.
A raffle will be held and items include Tigers tickets, a kid's bike, tickets to Michigan Adventure Parks, Belle Tire gift cards, a TrekBit and other items.
Many area businesses and Rainbow's vendor partners are attending to give out information or are donating cash or giveaways to support the Bike Fair.
