LIVONIA, Mich. – Last year, As We Divide opened for We Came As Romans.

They got the opportunity to perform at the WCAR by showing the staff at the Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac that they try and care about what they do as musicians, according to guitarist Jake Danke. It was the most people they’ve ever performed in front of.

“That show was the happiest moment in our lives,” Danke said. “I remember I couldn't look at the crowd for the first three songs without tearing up.”

This year, the guys in the five-piece band from Livonia are preparing to release an album and play at Bled Fest, where they will perform on the same bill as bands such as La Dispute, Bear vs. Shark and Speak Low If You Speak Love.

Danke credits the band’s family and closest friends for the opportunities they’ve had so far, as well as their managers, Steve and Jason.

He referred to them as “mom and dad” of the band, and said getting them as managers was the best thing to happen to the band.

While the people in the members’ lives are so important to the band’s success, being in the band sometimes keeps them from their family and friends. During the week, Danke is going to school and working, and on the weekend his time is dedicated to the band.

“I always tell people I have three jobs,” he said. “I deliver pizza, go to school and play in a band.”

While it may be tough, it’s worth it. With a focus on being the best at what they do, the guys in As We Divide do what they love and wouldn’t have it any other way.

“We could not think of anything else we'd rather do than tour with each other and make memories,” Danke said.

The band pulls inspiration from A Day To Remember, You Me At Six and Memphis Mayfire, though the goal is to make something unique. Danke said they try to take what they like about those bands and produce their own sound.

The new album is going to be something they’ve never done before, Danke said, and a taste of that new music has already been released.

Catch As We Divide at the Ten Year Fanfare on May 20 at the Crofoot, where they will be covering songs from A Day to Remember’s "For Those Who Have Heart album," and see them at Bled Fest on May 27 at the Hartland Performing Arts Center in Howell.
