INKSTER, Mich. – The death of a 3-year-old Inkster boy, who died in a hospital Thursday, has been ruled a homicide, officials announced Friday.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner ruled that Tyme Smith was killed by multiple blunt force trauma injuries to his head and body.

The boy's father, 41, and his father's girlfriend, 21, were taken into custody and are facing possible homicide charges in the case.

Police said they were called to a Garden City Hospital emergency room, where Tyme was suffering from severe injuries to his head and all over his body. Tyme was alive when he got to the hospital, but police said he later succumbed to his injuries.

Neighbors told Local 4 that little Tyme was friendly and fun to be around. They said the family moved into the apartment on Inkster Road a short time ago. They were crushed by the news that Tyme had died.

"It's very shocking, because I never heard hollering, or anything like that," neighbor Aaron Parker said. "They're very friendly."
