Liquor bottles found near body

SOUTFIELD, Mich. – A man's body was discovered in a fountain outside a Southfield office building Saturday.

A woman spotted the body around 3 p.m. and called police.

Officers secured the area around the Essex Center along the Northwestern Highway service drive.

Electrical power was cut off to the fountain and fire department staff used a boat to retrieve the body from the fountain.

The body is described as being a black male in his late forties. Police removed evidence from the scene suggesting the man was a Southfield resident.

Several liquor bottles and a bag from a nearby liquor store were also discovered.

Police do not consider the death to be suspicious but are continuing their investigation.

Police have been in touch with potential family members.

The Oakland County Medical Examiner's office will work to identify the man and determine how he died.
