Argument on bus leads to 3-vehicle shootout at Detroit Greyhound station

Shots fired at Greyhound bus station near Downtown Detroit

DETROIT – Shots were fired Monday in front of the Greyhound bus station in Downtown Detroit after an argument between two men on a bus before the shooting.

None of the shots hit anyone at what's normally a very busy spot downtown, police said.

Officials spent hours outside the bus station collecting shell casings and talking to witnesses to try to figure out what had happened, but witnesses said it was a shootout between three vehicles. They said the incident started on the bus.

"I didn't come home for this," Anthony Totton said.

Totton came to Detroit for a funeral. On the Greyhound bus, he said, two men started fighting.

"The guy woke up and the other guy was all around his private space and he asked him nicely to get out of his space and he didn't take it nicely and got really angry," Totton said.

The argument quickly escalated.

"One says to the other one, 'Just wait until we get there. I'm going to show you what I'll do to you,' and the other guy says, 'I got a crew too. Just wait,'" Totton said. "So they both made phone calls."

Once the bus arrived, witnesses said there was chaos.

"That's when the shooting started," a witness named Eddie said. "Pow, pow, pow, pow. They shot the car up."

Witnesses said they all took cover.

"I was ducking because those bullets don't have a name on them, and I wasn't trying to catch one," Totton said.

Totton said he's glad nobody was hurt, but that the shooting never should have happened in the first place.

"It was senseless, but I said to myself, 'What a way to come home,'" Totton said.

Police didn't find any victims and said the three vehicles fled in different directions.
