Daylen Head died Monday from self-inflicted gunshot; Prosecutor says gun wasn't secure

DETROIT – The father of a 9-year-old boy who died after shooting himself in the head with a shotgun Monday in a home on Detroit's west side has been charged.

Christopher Duran Head, 45, is facing second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, second-degree child abuse and three other weapons charges.

He was arraigned Thursday and remanded to jail.

Head's son, Daylen, shot himself in a bedroom of a home in the 6600 block of Barton, police said.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said the loaded shotgun was not secured and was accessible to the boy.
