Detroit woman charged in gas station shooting will go to trial

Shamicah Burton charged in shooting that was caught on video

DETROIT – A judge on Friday sent a 20-year-old woman to trial on charges after authorities said she was captured on surveillance video hiding a gun in her underwear before opening fire on a car at a Detroit gas station.

Shamicah Burton, of Detroit, is charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, carrying a concealed weapon, a felony firearm violation and carrying a firearm with unlawful intent. She waived her right to a preliminary hearing before Judge Kenneth King, and he bound her over on the charges.

Authorities said wideo from the station's cameras shows Burton and three other people standing outside a Dodge Charger on March 20 when a Pontiac Grand Prix pulls into the station. Words were exchanged, and Burton allegedly retrieves a handgun from the Charger's glove box, police said.

In the video, friends tried to hold Burton back, but she rushed to the Grand Prix and started shooting, hitting the driver several times, police said.

Burton also charged in armed robbery day before

Burton is accused of robbing two women at gunpoint just a day before the shooting at the gas station. According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Burton followed two women March 19 on Fenkell Avenue, got out of her vehicle with a handgun, threatened the women and stole their purses, along with other items. 

She is charged with two counts of armed robbery, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm. She is expected to be arraigned on these charges on Friday.
