DETROIT – Three men impersonating Detroit police officers broke into a home and shot a man early Tuesday morning.
According to police, three men wearing all black and masks kicked in the side door of a home in the 6300 block of Mettatal Street, near Warren Road and the Southfield Freeway, just before 5 a.m.
They announced they were police, went into a bedroom where a man and his girlfriend were sleeping and forced them onto the ground.
The 35-year-old man who was sleeping was shot twice in the back, police said. He is in stable condition.
A 5-year-old boy who was asleep in the bedroom next door was not injured.
The men also took money from the home.
The three men have not been located or identified.
Investigators don’t think the home invasion and robbery were random, and believe something personal motivated it. The home is a rental and the family has only been living there for six months.
Call Crime Stoppers at 800-speakup with information about the home invasion.
