Lady Liberty statue stolen from Pontiac restaurant

Statue was landmark at Pontiac's Bronx Deli

PONTIAC, Mich. – A landmark Lady Liberty statue outside the Bronx Deli in Pontiac suddenly disappeared Sunday night.

The scale model of the Statue of Liberty has stood outside the restaurant on Telegraph Road south of Huron Street since 2009.

Restaurant owner Marc Zuccato could not believe it.

"She was bolted right at the base. You can still see the outline. It's un-American. I know guys are doing it to get the cash, but that's sacred," Zuccato said.

Restaurant customers are also surprised and outraged about the theft.

Marc Zuccato, who also owns the Bronx Deli in Farmington Hills, is asking his customers to help in the hunt for the statue.

"I've sent an email to my customers, letting them know if they have any information, and I will give a reward. We want her back," Zuccato said.

Marc Zuccato has filed a police report and local scrap yards have been notified to be on the lookout for the missing Lady Liberty.
