Murder investigation continues as killer of Detroit neurosurgeon remains at large

There’s a $22,500 reward for tips leading to an arrest

DETROIT – A year after the killing of Detroit neurosurgeon Dr. Devon Hoover, the killer remains on the run.

Hoover was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in the attic of his Boston-Edison home on April 23, 2023.

There were no signs of forced entry, which police said indicates Hoover may have known his killer.

Local 4 requested an update from Detroit police on Wednesday (April 24) on the status of the investigation.

A Detroit Police Department spokesperson called the investigation open and active but wouldn’t confirm whether there were any new developments.

Last November, Detroit police Chief James White hinted at a big announcement in the case that never came.

“We had a significant to-do list when we submitted our findings,” said White. “We are working through that to-do list, and we’re just about to complete, and I’m hopeful that it will be very soon,” he said at the time.

Shortly after police discovered Hoover’s body, a person of interest was taken into custody on a warrant unrelated to the killing. The individual was released days later.

Police said at the time they believe the person had information about what happened.

Local 4 reached out to Hoover’s family for comment and hasn’t heard back from them.

There’s a $22,500 reward for tips leading to an arrest. If you have any information, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.
