Clinton Township police said a man escaped from police custody while being transported to St. Clair County after police found out the man had an outstanding warrant.
UPDATE: Escaped prisoner captured in New Baltimore, police say
Police say they responded to a call on Saturday about a suspicious person in the area of 15 Mile and Groesbeck.
When deputies arrived, they found the man in question and discovered through a criminal check that the man had an outstanding warrant out of St. Clair County.
Clinton Township police transported the man to the area of I-94 and 26 Mile Road where he was to be turned over to the Marysville Police Department.
During the prisoner exchange between Clinton Township and Marysville police, the man was able to break free and fled into a wooded area nearby.
Police searched the area but were unable to locate the man.
Police did not release a description of the man and said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
