Missing mother of toddler found dead in Detroit apartment located at psych ward

Boy's body found in apartment by maintenance worker

DETROIT – The mother of a toddler who was found dead Wednesday in a Detroit apartment has been found at a local hospital's psychiatric ward. 

The toddler-aged boy's decomposing body was found at the Madison Estates apartments on Trumbull Avenue in the Woodbridge neighborhood after a maintenance worker went into an apartment because of a strong odor.

First Assistant Chief Lashinda Stair said the boy appears to be 2 of 3 years old. Police said the boy may have been dead for more than a week. His death is being investigated as a homicide. 

Police said the child’s mother was taken from the apartment by ambulance more than a week ago. The mother reportedly was released from the hospital Tuesday. 

However, police later found her at a local hospital's psychiatric ward.
