Police would only say that there are several victims at the scene. However, sources told KPRC2 that at least seven people were injured in the shooting, and that the gunman was shot, was still alive and in custody.

A KPRC2 crew reported hearing several gunshots at the scene when they arrived.

A witness, who called 911, told KPRC2 that she heard as many as 30 shots fired. She said that the man had been shooting for at least 15 minutes by the time police arrived.

There were also several police vehicles at an apartment complex next to the shopping center, but it was not clear how that scene was connected to the shooting scene.

A message sent to parents of students at West University Elementary said the city's police chief told him that there is no danger to the school, but a police officer was at the school until the situation is totally cleared.

The message also said that police are investigating a suspicious vehicle at the scene, and that part of the city is under a shelter-in-place order.

Students of the school who live in Sunset Terraces of the Chimney areas will not have sbesnces counted against them, the message said.
