Police search for man who used video camera in women's bathroom

Peeping Tom allegedly put camera in Port-A-Potty during 5K race

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are searching for a peeping Tom who they say set up a camera in Ypsilanti Township to record his victims.

UPDATE: Royal Oak man arrested in connection with camera found in Port-A-Potty

Police don't know the man's name, but they believe he put a camera in a bathroom at a 5K race. He allegedly took the camera, put it in a cup and strategically placed it in the bathroom.

But the man didn't know that after pressing record, the camera was hard to stash without leaving incriminating evidence.

"With these clear images, it should be clear to someone out there who this individual is," Lt. Jim Anuszkiewicz, of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office, said.

Officials said the man placed the camera in the Port-A-Potty on Oct. 10, 2015, at the Run Scream Run event. It was gone by 11 a.m. on the following day, so police believe the camera was in the bathroom for several hours.

"It is disturbing that someone would actually do this, whether it was a joke or for some other purpose," Anuszkiewicz said. "The reality is the only person who knows who did this is the person who did this."

Police said the morning of the race, a woman noticed the camera placed down inside the bathroom.

"It was made to their attention because it was actually located in a cup," Anuszkiewicz said.

Police are asking for help after investigators have struggled for a year while showing the man's picture, which was left on the camera.

"It's unfortunate for him," Anuszkiewicz said. "Hopefully it benefits us when the public sees this individual."
