Royal Oak man arrested in connection with camera found in Port-A-Potty

Peeping Tom allegedly put camera in Port-A-Potty during 5K race last October

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police have arrested a 45-year-old Royal Oak man in connection with a camera that was found in a Port-A-Potty in Ypsilanti Township last October.

The peeping Tom allegedly set up a camera in a bathroom during a 5K race in Ypsilanti Township. Police didn't know his name, but they said he accidentally left pictures of himself on the camera, which was found by a woman in the bathroom.

Police released the images Wednesday in an attempt to identify the man in the picture. They said numerous reports came in and the man was arrested Friday morning without incident.

The man is being held at the Washtenaw County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday.

Police search for man in pictures

"With these clear images, it should be clear to someone out there who this individual is," Lt. Jim Anuszkiewicz, of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office, said Wednesday.

Officials said the man placed the camera in the Port-A-Potty on Oct. 10, 2015, at the Run Scream Run event. It was gone by 11 a.m. on the following day, so police believe the camera was in the bathroom for several hours.

"It is disturbing that someone would actually do this, whether it was a joke or for some other purpose," Anuszkiewicz said. "The reality is the only person who knows who did this is the person who did this."

Police said the morning of the race, a woman noticed the camera placed down inside the bathroom.

"It was made to their attention because it was actually located in a cup," Anuszkiewicz said.
