Police: Suicidal Oak Park man walks in station with toy gun

Michigan State Police taser homicidal, suicidal man outside police post on Monday

OAK PARK, Mich. – A 48-year-old man from Oak Park walked into the Michigan State Police Metro Post on Monday.

Police say the man made several remarks to the front desk personnel that were incoherent.

The suspect kept telling the trooper "outside."

When the trooper escorted him outside the man became agitated and placed his hand in his pocket and made threatening comments at troopers.

Police asked the man to remove his hand from his pocket. The man refused and walked towards them.

Police tasered the man and took him into custody. It was later discovered the man had a small toy gun in his pocket.

Police say the man has a past history of mental illness and was off his medication

They believe the man was both homicidal and suicidal and came to the post to confront the troopers.

Neither the suspect nor the troopers were injured.

No criminal charges will be sought against the man who was taken to Providence Hospital for a mental evaluation.
