Stranger danger: Grosse Pointe Woods child approached while walking to school alone

GROSSE POINTE WOODS, Mich. – Police are searching for a woman who they said approached a 10-year-old child while he walked to school alone in Grosse Pointe Woods.

The Tyrone Elementary School student was walking on Allard Avenue around 7:55 a.m. Friday when he was approached by a woman between Harper and Arthur avenues, police said.

The woman drove up alongside the student and said, "I'll give you a ride to school. Come on, get in." When the child told the woman he wouldn't get in, she continued to try to coax him into the minivan for a few minutes before driving away, police said.

Police describe the woman as black and around 40 years old. She was driving a white minivan with rust at the bottom and tinted windows.
