Suspect in Bloomfield Township attempted abduction turns himself into police

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A suspect in connection to the attempted abduction in Bloomfield Township turned himself into police Friday night.

The man is a 49-year-old Pontiac resident. He turned himself into police at 9:30 p.m.

Four women contacted police Thursday after encountering the suspect at the strip mall at the southwest corner of Woodward Avenue and Square Lake Road.

Rachel Libowitz is a mother of two and she learned about the incidents from a group text from other moms in the area.

“She sent a group text out to make us all aware of the situation,” Libowitz said. “It scared me as a mother. I’m rushing around, two young kids in car seats, getting them in and out of the seats. I’m not always looking behind me, but it’s going to make me more aware of the surroundings.”

A man walked into the Rite Aid in the strip mall and approached a woman. She told police he made sexual comments to her and was very aggressive.

The man left the Rite Aid and approached a 20-year-old woman who was sitting in her vehicle. The man asked her if she wanted to make $100,000 and she declined which angered the man.

He tried to pull the young woman from her vehicle and she resisted. The man ran to a red full-size panel van and the woman thought he left.

The woman went inside the Qdoba restaurant and minutes later the man followed. He approached a second woman in line and attempted to lure her out of the restaurant, but she refused and the man left.

Qdoba staff walked the woman to her car and called police.

Police are trying to contact the woman in the security camera footage to ask more questions about the encounter.

Later in the evening, a third woman contacted police about a man acting strange and trying to speak to her as she sat in her car outside of the Rite Aid in the same strip mall.

Police received additional reports that suspects were seen loitering in other nearby businesses in the shopping center.

The man was described as black, 6 feet tall, weighing 180 to 200 pounds, is between 40 and 50 years old and has a medium complexion. He has a distinctive mole on the outside of one of his eyes, has short black hair, a thicker trimmed mustache, and was wearing a black knit hat, green army jacket and dark pants. He was driving a red panel van without a license plate and no rear windows. A second subject was seen inside the van.
