Ann Arbor District Library to resume services Dec. 9

All five branches to resume contactless item pickup

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – After temporarily halting library services in mid-November, the Ann Arbor District Library will resume some services.

In a letter to the community, Library Director Josie Parker said that contactless pickup can begin for all five library branches on Dec. 9

“Due to high numbers of new COVID cases in Washtenaw County, we are making some adjustments to enable service to continue with fewer staff in the buildings at the same time, to decrease the risk of spread among our staff,” Parker said.

“This means some services will be temporarily suspended in December. We thank you for your patience as we adapt to changing public health conditions, and we look forward to resuming full service as soon as we safely can.”

AADL closed all of its branches and stopped item pickups on Nov. 15 after staff members tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

On Monday, Nov. 30, library card holders will be able to schedule pickup times for their items beginning on Dec. 9. All five branch lobbies will be open from noon to 8 p.m. every day of the week.

Books and other library materials can also be picked up through contactless lockers available at the Westgate, Malletts Creek, Pittsfield and Traverwood branches.

Items that were ready for pick up before the library’s sudden closure will be available until Dec. 16, according to Parker’s update.

She added that Wi-Fi in the Malletts Creek, Westgate, Traverwood, and Pittsfield branch parking lots will be improved with new Wi-Fi Access Points throughout December. Community members can use the Wi-Fi for free 24 hours a day without a login or library card.

Parker noted that MelCat borrowing, shelf service and summer game order fulfillment services will still be suspended as they require additional staff.

Contactless printing services will also resume.
