University of Michigan announces schedule, speakers for presidential inauguration

Full Q&A with new University of Michigan President Dr. Santa Ono

ANN ARBOR – Santa J. Ono will officially become University of Michigan’s 15th president during an inauguration ceremony slated for March 7.

The event will include a formal, academic ceremony and other activities, including a community reception and a symposium.

Members of the public can attend the following events:

  • 8 a.m.: Flag raising at the Law Quad
  • 9-11:30 a.m.: Symposium at Stamps Auditorium in the Walgreen Drama Center, 1226 Murfin Ave.
  • 2:30 p.m.: Procession including Ingalls Mall, 881 N. University Ave., and the Diag, ending at Hill Auditorium
  • 3-4 p.m.: Ceremony at Hill Auditorium, 825 N. University Ave.
  • 4-5:30 p.m.: Community reception at Ingalls Mall

Speakers at the ceremony:

  • Victor Dzau, president of the National Academy of Medicine
  • Hanna Holborn Gray, historian, former president of the University of Chicago and Yale University
  • Earl Lewis, founding director of the U-M Center for Social Solutions
  • Santa J. Ono, president of U-M

Tickets for the ceremony at Hill Auditorium are free and are currently available at the Union Ticket Office, according to a U-M release.
