DETROIT – Michigan Wolverines national champion Roman Wilson was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers at pick No. 84 in the third round of the NFL draft on Friday.
Wilson played a pivotal role in the Wolverines successful national championship run in the 2023 season. He was J.J. McCarthy’s go-to receiver, making 48 receptions for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns, including a remarkable 47-yard catch.
The 6′0″ 192-pound wide receiver made enormous plays throughout the season, with some of his most memorable plays coming in big-time moments.
Who can forget his touchdown catch inside the Big House against the Ohio State Buckeyes that somehow went under officials’ review?
How can Michigan fans and the alumni base forget the massive catch in the Rose Bowl against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the fourth quarter, which gained 29 yards to set up the game-tying score?
Wilson had to adjust to McCarthy’s tipped pass to make the remarkable catch, as all of us who were in attendance and those who were watching at home bit our nails down to the cuticles.
Wilson would go on to catch and score the game-tying touchdown with some flair to send the game into overtime. The Wolverines prevailed 27-20 to advance to the College Football National Championship, taking down the Washington Huskies in dominant fashion.
Wilson’s exceptional performance in the 2023 season earned him the title of Second-team All-Big Ten Conference. He was also recognized as the Wolverines Co-Offensive Skill Player of the Year, a remarkable achievement for a player who started all 15 games for the undefeated 15-0 national champions, a first in the program’s history.
