The City of Ann Arbor and Ann Arbor SPARK are unveiling the Ann Arbor Green Business Challenge (A2 GBC), an exciting new initiative set to revolutionize sustainability efforts in the local business community.

Designed to celebrate and champion businesses committed to eco-friendly practices, the A2 GBC aims to be more than just a certification program—it’s a movement to create a greener, more sustainable future.

By participating in the challenge, businesses can showcase their dedication to environmental responsibility while earning recognition and cash rewards.

On Tuesday, a launch event shared information with interested businesses. Speakers at the program launch include Rodger Bowser of Zingerman’s Delicatessen, Yahang Zhang of RRS, and Heidi Poscher of 4th Purpose Energy.

Here’s How It Works:

Businesses participating in A2 GBC will create sustainability across seven key categories:

  • Energy
  • Circular economy
  • Water
  • Resilience
  • Supply chain
  • Education
  • Mobility

Participants earn points corresponding to different certification levels -- bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. From reducing energy consumption to promoting upcycling, every step towards sustainability counts.

Recognition and Rewards:

The A2 GBC doesn’t stop at acknowledgment—it rewards excellence. All participating businesses will be recognized at the end of the 4 1/2-month challenge period. Top performers receive cash rewards for their outstanding achievements and innovative sustainability initiatives.

The program is a joint effort between Ann Arbor SPARK and Ann Arbor’s Office of Sustainability and Innovations.
