If you haven’t checked out the new Ralph C Wilson park in Southwest Detroit yet, you’re missing out.

On Saturday the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy and Project Play joined forces to get kids thinking about playing different sports. More than 30 organizations came out, from the familiar, like the Lions, Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons, to sports you may not have thought about.

“We have a number of partners in sports you haven’t tried like rugby, skateboarding, breakdancing, robotics and chess,” said Addison Mauck with the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy.

Matthew Williams is the manager of baseball growth initiatives for the Tigers and says he’s passionate about paying it forward.

“I was born and raised in Detroit and my first love was baseball. Baseball kept me focused, made sure I had grades to graduate from Wayne State, now working for the team I grew up rooting for, is a blessing,” Matthew said.
