He said the coaching staff’s message has been about unity.
“The most important thing for us is staying together, sticking together, and really keeping the locker room clean,” Klein said. “We’ve done a really good job with that.”
Klein acknowledged the toll such situations take on players but emphasized the value of the journey.
“I wouldn’t change it for anything,” Klein said. “I think it’s a part of the journey. I’m not a guy that’s going to focus on the bad part.”
Klein reflected on the successes he’s proud of, including multiple Big Ten championships and a national title.
“When I leave this place, I’m not going to focus on the bad things that have happened here,” Klein said.
Transfer portal
Regarding his future, Klein said he has no plans to transfer.
“For me, it’s either going to come back for my fifth year or take the chance to go to the NFL,” Klein said. “My plan right now is playing this game for my brothers, for my teammates.”
Klein stressed the importance of focusing on the upcoming bowl game against Texas, a team he believes deserved a playoff spot.
“I think that’s a great opportunity for all of us,” Klein said.
When asked how diving into work and game planning helps during tough times, Klein said it provides a sanctuary.
“Coming to this building, trying to get better every single day and preparing for Texas,” Klein said. “Bad stuff is going to happen to good people, that’s just a part of life.”
Betrayal
On feelings of betrayal after the coaching change, Klein shared a personal perspective.
“Coach Moore was the person that gave me the chance to change my life forever and change my family’s life,” Klein said. “It’s a hard time seeing a guy like that in that situation.”
Klein said he is focused on supporting his teammates rather than dwelling on the situation. “I’m just focused on helping my brothers out and making sure they’re all good.”
Describing the emotional impact, Klein said he has not fully processed everything yet.
“It’s been trying to figure out how to help all these other guys, especially the younger ones,” Klein said. “You come here for the brand, the block. That’s why I chose to come here.”
Klein praised the team’s leadership, highlighting players who step up even without official titles.
“One of those guys is TJ Guy,” Klein said. “Everybody views him as a captain. His leadership over these past critical days has been awesome.”
When asked about the players’ reaction to the coaching change, Klein said it was tough because many were recruited by Moore and had long-standing relationships with him.
“It’s hard to see him be in that situation and his family,” Klein said.
Klein acknowledged the challenge of keeping focus amid transfer rumors but credited the team’s leadership and interim coach Biff Poggi.
“Coach Poggi is a legend, everybody loves him,” Klein said. “The vibe in the building has been awesome.”
Regarding the program’s reputation amid recent staff issues, Klein said Michigan means everything to him and his family.
“I believe everything happens for a reason,” Klein said. “I don’t think a few people can take down what the block M means.”
Biff Poggi
Looking ahead, Klein expressed strong support for coach Poggi as the next head coach.
“He truly cares about the people within the building,” Klein said. “He’s a Michigan man and loves it here. I do believe he’s the best fit for the younger guys and the locker room.”
Klein said Poggi’s leadership has helped rally the team.
“He checks up on us, takes care of us in practice,” Klein said. “Practice has been fun. It’s been so fun these past four days just getting back on the field.”
Poogi concluded by expressing optimism for the future and the upcoming game.
“Just looking forward to the 31st,” Klein said.
