WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – Former Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore is scheduled to appear in a Washtenaw County courtroom for a hearing on his attorneys’ request to dismiss charges against him.
Moore’s defense argues that the arrest warrant was issued based on false and misleading statements.
His attorneys have filed a motion to quash the warrant and dismiss the complaint, asserting that the truth will emerge at trial.
Moore previously appeared in court on Jan. 22 for a probable cause conference.
The judge adjourned the hearing after Moore’s defense requested 30 days to review statements made by the complaining witness, an athletic department employee with whom Moore was accused of having an inappropriate romantic relationship.
That alleged relationship led to Moore’s firing as Michigan’s head football coach on Dec. 10, 2025.
Prosecutors were instructed to respond to the defense’s motion by Feb. 2.
A hearing on the motion to dismiss is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m., also in person.
Depending on the outcome, a new date will be set for the probable cause hearing, with a tentative next hearing scheduled for March 19 at 9 a.m.
Moore faces charges including third-degree home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering.
He was arrested Dec. 10, 2025, following a 911 call reporting a man attacking a woman in a Pittsfield Township apartment.
Moore was later placed in protective custody by mental health professionals.
After his arrest, Moore was released on a $25,000 bond on Dec. 12, 2025.
Moore’s attorney, Ellen Michaels, said after the Jan. 22 hearing, “Mr. Moore is innocent of these charges. Today, on behalf of Mr. Moore, we filed a motion to quash the arrest warrant and dismiss the complaint. We’ve requested that the court grant a ‘Franks hearing’ because this warrant was issued based on false and misleading statements presented as fact. We’re confident the truth will come out in court under oath.”
Reports indicate that following his dismissal, Moore went to the woman’s home and allegedly threatened to take his own life.
The woman was reportedly on the phone with her lawyer when Moore allegedly broke into her apartment, with the lawyer hearing screaming over the phone.
The woman ended the relationship two days before Moore’s firing, but Moore continued to call and send numerous texts over the following days.
This behavior prompted the University of Michigan to notify authorities, leading to Moore’s dismissal and subsequent arrest.
