3 injured in Ypsilanti Township explosion, officials say

Worker says someone driving high-low hit gas line

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Three people were injured in an explosion in Ypsilanti Township on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The explosion happened at around 3 p.m. in the 1200 block of James L Hart Parkway, just south of I-94, on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026.

Ypsilanti Township Fire Chief Steven Densmore said when crews arrived at the scene, they found a partial collapse with possible entrapment.

They rescued three people who were inside. The chief said all three were taken to local hospitals.

The explosion happened in a rear back corner of the building, and the back part of the building is significantly damaged, according to the chief. He said the situation involved a moving forklift.

Hazmat teams are at the scene, and so far, everything has come back negative. The gas to the building has been shut off.

The chief said they expect to be at the scene for a few more hours and that there is no immediate danger to anyone in the surrounding area.

You can hear everything the fire chief said in the video below:

Dion Raglin, an ink technician for Electronics For Imaging, Inc., said that someone was driving a high-low and hit one of the gas lines.

Two managers and a maintenance worker went back inside to make sure everyone was out, according to Raglin, and those three workers were the people who were injured.

“The whole building is like a tuna can — it’s just shredded," Raglin said. “It had a big old puff when we were back there.”
