DETROIT – Longtime Detroit official Bella Marshall's death has been ruled accidental.

The 62-year-old died Tuesday at her home.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner said she died from hemothorax due to a rib fracture, which Local 4's Dr. Frank McGeorge explained was a collection of blood in the space between the chest wall and the lung.

Marshall served for years under former Detroit Mayor Coleman Young and most recently under Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano.

She was also married to businessman Don Barden.

Barden named has President and CEO of Waycor Development Company. The couple divorced in January 2011.

Don Barden died of cancer on May 19, 2011.

Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano released the following statement:

"Today I lost a friend and former colleague. Bella Marshall was an outstanding business person and a dedicated public servant for Wayne County. She was hard-working and a passionate voice for the people. While she was fortunate herself, she never forgot her roots. She will be missed by the many lives she touched."
