Detroit woman finds leaking barrels dumped outside her home

Community demands accountability

DETROIT – A concerned resident reached out to Help Me Hank after discovering large barrels and containers dumped in their neighborhood.

The containers -- dumped on Woodingham Drive, near Fenkell Avenue -- weren’t just an eyesore, but a real community concern because they started leaking.

Lasondra Bell, like many others in the area, has called this neighborhood home for years. When the containers were dumped just feet from her home, she became upset. She sent Help Me Hank photos of what she found Tuesday morning.

What was in these barrels dumped on her block, and more importantly, why in the world did someone dump them there?

Hank reached out to the city right away, and the response was not only immediate but comprehensive. Police, fire, and HAZMAT crews showed up to investigate, determine what’s in the barrels, what’s leaking from them, start the process to remove them, learn where they came from, and why.

Due to their weight and size, investigators suspect they came from a nearby business that may have recently closed and instead of paying to properly dispose of the mess, it was simply dumped.
