"This is a happy occasion for us. We're presenting a Detroit legend at a legendary venue, at a time when the world is watching Rodriguez closely," says Dan McGowan, of the Crofoot Presents, the promotion company behind the event.
With the Oscar for "Searching for Sugar Man" as Best Documentary film, Rodriguez has experienced an explosion of interest. A sold out show at Pontiac's Crofoot Ballroom in November, an appearance at the Ann Arbor Folk Festival, and several high profile TV appearances, including 60 Minutes, Late Show with David Letterman, a CNN feature story, and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, have reinforced Rodriguez status as cult icon.
Tickets are $45 for Main Floor; $35 for Balcony, and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at Ticket Master outlets. Doors are at 8 p.m. May 18.
