On June 27 the city of Detroit will be lighting up from a spectacular celebration for the 2016 Ford Fireworks show on the Detroit River.

Belle Isle, which will be open to the public all day, is one of the best spots in the city to catch the massive pre-Independence Day light show as the island sits front row to both Downtown Detroit and the Canadian border.

Before planning your Belle Isle fireworks watch party, the city of Detroit wants you to know a few important things:

  • Alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited on the island except by use permit. Permits can be obtained from the park supervisor with a shelter or event rental.
  • Groups can only bring tents and canopies smaller than 9 feet by 9 feet, and the park does not allow more than two tents per group of people.
  • Personal fireworks are prohibited on the Island. Please do not bring them to the park.
  • Lining up on Jefferson Avenue to watch the show is not allowed.

It is also important to know that a recreation passport is required for vehicle entry to Belle Isle.

Bike and pedestrian traffic will be able to enter the park at normal operating hours which are from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the Island will remain open for the duration of the show and close immediately after the fireworks display.

The Belle Isle Park will be open to vehicle traffic at 2 p.m., and the first 1,000 cars to enter are free but the island has a 3,000 vehicle entrance limit for the night so try to arrive early.
