Catch up with the legendary Dionne Warwick ahead of her Detroit show

Warwick performs at the Music Hall this Sunday

She’s a 6-time Grammy Award winner and the first African American solo female artist of her generation to win the prestigious award for Best Contemporary Female Vocal Performance. She’s also in the Grammy Museum where a 50th anniversary career exhibit was unveiled. Now, the legendary singer Dionne Warwick is coming to Detroit.

Ahead of her performance she spoke with “Live in the D’s” Tati Amare about what she’s been up to, including recording a new gospel album. “I had the pleasure of recording with some of the most important gospel singers of today, yesterday, and anytime at all,” Warwick said. She said among the artists were Jennifer Hudson, and Donnie McClurkin.

Warwick said she’s been performing for 63 years, and when asked what keeps her going, she said she loves her craft. She’s bringing that lovely voice back to Detroit for a performance this Sunday, at the Music Hall Center, presented by Hollywood Casino at Greektown.
