Take a global adventure with your next cup of coffee in Metro Detroit

You can get a taste of different cultures at this coffee shop

While there are many coffee shops to chose from in Metro Detroit, this place can take you on a global adventure with your next cup of coffee. At Meillie coffee shop in Ferndale, you can find many different types of coffee and tea from a variety of cultures. From Italian to Moroccan tea, the list goes on and on, and your next cup can be a taste of a different culture. Owner of Meillie, Jocelyn Chen, appeared on “Live in The D” to talk about new items on the menu.

Chen wants to bring the world together one cup at a time because coffee and tea are shared all around the world. “It, I think, is more than any other culinary experience. It’s a social activity,” she said. Not only are we socializing with others with a cup in our hand, but she said we are also, “Satisfying our human needs.”

She also hopes to build empathy through Meillie,. She used Morocco as an example. While the country experienced a hurricane last November, and had only been in the media for a short amount of time, she hopes that as you have Moroccan coffee or tea, you can think about the country more often.

A taste of their menu items includes a Dalgona inspired coffee that, “Took its name from a Korean street candy,” she said. She recommends not mixing the milk and the foam, so that the milk goes through the foam and that you get all the flavors in one sip.

Another item featured on their new menu is Brazilian limonada. This drink is a Brazilian lemonade which is made with lime juice, a housemate mint syrup, and mixed with oat milk. You can get the drink in vegan and non-vegan version.
